The French driver was delighted with the pole position at this year’s Czech GP, his first after almost two years
“ I’m so happy, and I can’t believe really that I’m on the Pole position here in Brno. We did a great work already from the Friday and overall with the new tyre, on one lap, I was able to improve a lot. We’ve made a progress since FP1, and worked so well in order to go straight to Q2 and hope for a good qualifying session. I was satisfied after FP3 because I made an incredible lap time that enabled me to go directly to Q2.
At the beginning of The qualifying session it was very hot and my bike was sliding a bit too much, so I was unable to set a good laptime. I was a bit worried, but on the second tyre, I finally managed a gap between me and other riders that I was following. It was a good group: Morbidelli, Valentino, Petrucci and Binder. I was just behind them and that way I could control my read grip better, and that also enabled me to improve acceleration and the lap time came.
I’m so happy, I must use this good position to start well tomorrow. The race pace is still not the best to hope for victory, but at least I will see a lot of things, and I’m still on the way to learn this bike and to improve myself, so I will do my best tomorrow to try control tires well, because I think there will be a lot of problems with those tyres lap by lap.”
